MENS DRAW - Standout Matches

Richard Gasquet 🇫🇷 (W) vs. Jannik Sinner 🇮🇹 [2]

If you’ve seen any of the matches involving French players so far, you’ll notice how excited the home crowd is. This was evident in Gasquet’s first-round match and it will no doubt be the same against the world number 2. Jannik Sinner was a doubt coming into the French Open, but he dispatched Eubanks very well. He will have enough to tame the crowd and Gasquet.

Ben Shelton 🇺🇸 [15] vs. Kei Nishikori 🇯🇵

The exuberant Shelton will have a tough test against a solid professional in round 2. Nishikori is a three-time quarterfinalist at Roland Garros. He has struggled with his health for several years but will have enough to frustrate Shelton. I believe the power and lefty serve from Shelton will be enough to see him through in four sets.

UPSET ALERT

Jan-Lennard Struff 🇩🇪 vs. Alexander Bublik 🇰🇿 [19]

The big German will have the concentration to fend off the antics coming from the other end. Bublik is always fun to watch, but Struff will have the better discipline and will win in four or five sets

A sumptuous second-round match has been produced by the tennis gods. Iga cruised through her first-round match but will have a much tougher test against four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. You’re brave if you go against Iga at the moment. Her form is excellent and I see her winning in two close sets.

Victoria Azarenka [19] vs. Mirra Andreeva

Experience versus youthfulness. There is a 17-year age difference between these two. I don’t think enough is said about the quality that Azarenka still plays at. Still sitting inside the top 20, her experience will get her through this one.

Andreescu was brilliant in her first-round victory over Sorribes Tormo. Kalinskaya has had a career year, but this is one that I see going to the Canadian.
