How to Create a Winning Tennis Routine in 2025

🎾 Ready to make 2025 your best tennis year yet? The secret isn’t just in hitting more balls (though that helps!). It’s about building a winning tennis routine that works for you. Whether you’re just starting out or aiming for the big leagues, having a solid tennis routine can take your game to the next level.

Let’s break it down into three simple steps: Plan, Practice & Play

  1. Plan: Set Your Goals

Before you step onto the court, decide what you want to achieve.

  • Are you looking to improve your forehand?

  • Hoping to win more matches in your local league?

  • Want to play tennis just for fun?

Write your goals down (Get your FREE Goals Worksheet), and plan your routine around them.

  1. Practice: Make Every Session Count

Im sure you’ve heard of the saying “Practice makes perfect.” However there’s a key word missing from that phrase. Good practice makes perfect.

  • Start with a Warm-Up: Get your body moving and don’t forget to stretch.

  • Focus on Drills: Work on one or two key areas, like serves or backhands.

  • Add Variety: Mix in different drills, matchplay, and fitness work.

  • Cool Down: Stretch to stay flexible and avoid injuries.

Tennis Tom’s Top Tip: Practice is where you try new things. Don’t worry if it doesn’t always go perfectly, mistakes are how you learn!

  1. Play: Test Yourself in Matches

Practicing is great, but nothing beats the thrill of a match. Schedule regular games with friends, join a local league, or sign up for tournaments.

  • Play to Learn: Focus on what went well and where you can improve.

  • Stay Positive: Win or lose learn, every match helps you grow as a player.

  • Reflect and Reset: After each match, jot down one thing you did well and one thing to work on next time.

Reminder! Stick to a Schedule

Life gets busy, so make tennis part of your weekly routine.

  • Junior Players: Ask your coach for a mix of practice and matchplay.

  • Adult Players: Block out time for tennis like you would for any other commitment.

If you’re currently playing once a week, doubling this can make a huge difference!
